WHAT ARE WE ENCOURAGING IN OUR FASHION INDUSTRY?

I just started following the Nigerian fashion industry and as much as I love it this is what I have noticed.

We are celebrating and encouraging mediocrity.

With all the Nigerian designers ( and I use the word loosly) scampering to put a high value on their clothes which are sub par at best, poorly finished garments being shown on the runway, and being sold as well, it's just ridiculous ( no one in their right mind is going to buy them when we have tailors).

And what has happened to creativity? Fashion is an art form, a means of expression. You are only a designer if you create not if you pirate.

We should not be scared to express ourselves as Nigerian (and I don't mean by just using ankara).

There are a few people that are constantly trying to reinvent their brand while still  maintaining their signature. LDA, Deola Sagoe in my opinion are the 2 most exciting designers in Nigeria. JBL is great as well in her execution and finishing.

The other"designers" terribly fall short.

We need to push ourselves harder in order to create a market for this industry in our country. There are over 150 million people in this country and less than 1% of the population subscribes to the Nigerian fashion industry.

How about something for our weather like stylish rain coats, umbrellas, and boots for the rainy season?
How about cardies and light jackets for when it gets a little chilly?

Please let me know your thoughts on the Nigerian fashion industry.

A/W 2011 A.K.A HARMATTAN: COLOURS

Dry season is approaching and it definately won't be boring. All the yummy colours and patterns are being carried over from S/S 2011.

Deola Sagoe
If the bright colours are not your thing, you could wear darker prints or you could also muddy things up
by blending with darker colours or with nudes like LDA and Tsemaye Binite.

*Tsk Tsk* DEOLA SAGOE

Deola Sagoe A/W 2011 collection

Is that a rip we see in DS's gorgeous dress, or is Deola Sagoe just exercising her artistic license?
This beautiful dress from the designer's  A/W 2011 collection appears a little less than perfect. Maybe she just didnt notice. We love the dress though rips and all.

FOUND ANOTHER ONE!!!

*Doing a happy dance*
Yes I know some of you may already know about these things. But I'm a Naija fashion rookie so bare with me.
Her name is Tinuola Oluleye and she is the founder of James Lully (JL). JL bags are beautiful, and are perfect as an everyday bag. And at =N= 30,000 are an investment worth making.

We love the bags, but the towel in the last picture has to go.

SPEAK OF THE DEVIL...

In my last post I asked for a Nigerian hand bag designer and I found two!!!!! Onna Ehrlich and Tayo Shonekan. Both with very different styles.

Onna's bags are more high end and they've been carried by a few Oyinbo Celebrities. *GO ONNA!!!*

Tayo's bags are more organic.
Either way we love them both :)
all we need now are some gorgeous shoes *wink*

LABEL LUST!

WOOSAAA... This Mulberry bag is absolutely gorgeous. I know its a bank breaker, but its sooo beautiful. Nigerian designers need to start making bags ASAP!!

KATE MOSS'S WEDDING DRESS!!!!!!

Divine!!!! Divine!!!! Divine!!!!
This vintage style, crystal embelished John Galliano design is definately not a let down.
I know the picture is not that great but when I find a better one I'll put it up and we can dissect the dress well.
The groom (Jamie Hince) is rocking YSL. The guy knows his stuff.
They are clearly not a conventional couple.

We wish you guys a long and happy married life.
P.S how cute are the flower girls dresses. :)

When did Asa become a girl?

Until recently all any of us really cared about was Asa the musician. But Asa has somehow morphed into a fashionista over night and we are loving it.
Looking forward to more looks from you Asa.
Suprise us. :)

Jewel by Lisa's J label

If you are a Nigerian Fashion enthusiast like me, you will no doubt have heard about JBL's fresh and youthful diffusion line J label.

It's supposed to be affordable but I have to go and see for myself what the JBL team considers to be affordable.
Affordable or not the Adunni team is in love. These are the kind of clothes the modern Nigerian woman would wear.

Sha before I start talking too much here's the brand new collection

If your loving it as much as we are, they are available at the JBL store at 13 Ribadu street off Awolowo road Ikoyi.
For those of you who are not in Lagos, hopefully it will be available online soon. CHECK OUT   jewelbylisa.com.ng
